Why this exists

After my father's stroke, the hardest part wasn't the hospital. It was afterwards — watching a man who argued, joked, and told long stories struggle to be understood at his own dinner table.

The therapy worked, but it was an hour a week. Recovery wanted ten minutes a day. Every app we tried was built for someone else: too many buttons, too much English, cartoon stars for a seventy-nine-year-old man's effort.

So I built him a coach. It speaks first, in calm Hindi. It waits. It listens. It plays his own voice back so he can hear himself getting clearer — because he is. He taps one button a day. The app does the rest.

It gave my father his practice. I hope it helps someone you love find their words again.

— PuneetFounder, SpeakPapa · Texas, USA

A session is three turns, repeated gently.

No menus. No decisions. The whole screen changes color so it's always obvious whose turn it is — even for tired eyes.

Turn one — the coach

Suniye

The screen turns deep blue. A clear, unhurried Hindi voice says the word: dukaan.

Turn two — your father

Ab boliye

The screen turns green and listens. He says it in his own time. Recording is automatic — there is nothing to press.

Turn three — his voice

Aapki awaaz

The screen turns amber and plays his attempt back. Hearing yourself is half the therapy. Then the next word arrives on its own.

Three to seven items a session, each said twice. Fresh items arrive every morning, automatically, from a library of 32 Hindi sounds and 4,000+ everyday words, phrases, and sentences. If he's tired and goes quiet, the app notices — and rests with him.

Recovery is hard. The app shouldn't be.
So we left things out, on purpose.

Scores and gradesNobody needs a 64% on the word "paani". Progress here is heard, not graded.
Streaks and guiltMissed days are part of recovery. The calendar remembers the good days and judges none.
Childish praiseNo balloons, no "superstar!". A respectful "Bahut achha" from a calm voice — that's it.
Buttons during practiceZero. Tap anywhere to pause. A shaky hand can't press the wrong thing, because there is no wrong thing.
Accounts and cloudHis voice never leaves the device. No login, no upload, no analytics. Delete the app, and it's gone.
Sanskritized textbook HindiHe practices the words he actually needs: "ek minute", "namak kam", "doctor ko call karo".

The progress report is his own voice.

SpeakPapa quietly keeps a timeline of every practiced word. Months later, play June beside today and hear what gentle, daily practice does. Families don't cry over charts. They cry over this.

Questions families ask

My mother had the stroke, not my father. Is it still for her?

Completely. "Papa" is our story, not a requirement. The coach can greet her by any name you choose — or no name at all. Everything else is identical.

He's not good with phones. At all.

That's exactly who it's built for. After someone taps the one big blue button, there is nothing else to operate — the session speaks, listens, and advances by itself. Tapping anywhere simply pauses.

Does it replace a speech therapist?

No, and it doesn't pretend to. SpeakPapa is home practice between professional care — the daily repetitions a therapist would love their patient to do. It gives families structure for the other six days of the week.

Where do the recordings go?

Nowhere. They stay on the device. There are no accounts, no servers, and no analytics — we couldn't hear his voice if we wanted to. Deleting the app deletes everything.

What Hindi does it use?

The Hindi families actually speak — simple, warm, Hinglish-friendly. "Kaam karo", "ek minute", "doctor ko call". Never childish, never Sanskritized textbook formality.

How do I cancel?
